Environmental pollution can come in many forms. Pollution is not only dirty, but it also negatively impacts our physical and monetary well-being. For example, air pollution can cause respiratory problems, heart disease, and other health problems. Toxic water can be cancerous, cause gastrointestinal issues, and damage our fish and waterways. These issues can ruin crops and livestock, reducing food production and driving up prices.

Environmental problems are not only a health and agricultural challenge, they can also place a major drain on our economy. They can equate to billions of dollars in lost productivity, healthcare costs, and property damage.

But there's good news: we can do our part to help reduce pollution. And we can do it while also saving money. Here are a few ideas:

  • Drive less. One of the biggest sources of pollution is transportation. In rural areas like Osgood, this can be a bit difficult. However, when you're visiting bigger cities, if you can, choose to walk, bike, or take public transportation instead of driving.

  • Use energy-efficient appliances. When you're shopping for appliances, look for the Energy Star label. This means that the appliance meets certain energy efficiency standards.

  • Turn off lights when you leave a room. It may seem like a small thing, but turning off lights when you leave a room can save you a lot of money on your energy bill.Dishwasher

  • Unplug electronics when you're not using them. Even when they're turned off, many electronics continue to draw power. This is called "phantom load."

  • Weatherize your home. Weatherizing your home can help you save money on your energy bills. Caulk any cracks or gaps around windows and doors, and install insulation in your attic and walls.

  • Recycle. Recycling helps to reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfills. It also helps to conserve natural resources.

  • Compost. Composting is a great way to reduce food waste. It also helps to improve soil quality.

These are just a few of the many things you can do to help maintain a clean, beautiful planet while also saving money. By making small changes in your everyday life, you can make a big difference.
